Frequently asked questions.

Benchmarking mandates ask certain building owners to report their energy use, and compare or “benchmark” it against previous years or similar properties.

What are the benefits of benchmarking?

Benchmarking is an effective way to compare your building’s energy use to that of similar buildings. We offer summaries of these findings, allowing you to determine if you could save money by upgrading to more energy efficient products.

Why choose Bay Efficiency?

Accuracy and expertise. Our founder is an engineer with nearly 20 years of experience in the energy sector. With his background, your benchmark will be accurate every time. He can also help with energy audits to maximize savings.

What if I don’t want to benchmark?

You’re not alone. However, unless local laws change, it is mandatory. Those not in compliance will face fines. We do offer discounts to clients that sign up for automatic benchmarking, to make the process a little less painful.

How much does it cost?

Local requirements and buildings vary. Our quotes take several factors into account. For instance, a warehouse with one meter takes less time than a shopping mall with 100 tenants.

Can I do this myself?

Yes! Just like some folks do their own taxes, certain people do their own benchmarking. We find that our clients prefer having peace of mind knowing an engineer has gone over everything and certified it as accurate.

What will I get out of the benchmark?

For each benchmark, we will notify you when you submit, send you a report about the status of your property and how it compares to similar buildings, and can discuss any efficiencies that might save you money.
